With both teams already showing a willingness to grind in the half court and the Spurs likely tightening the screws defensively rather than trying to run, the setup points to another game that stays under the number.

4% Spurs/Thunder Game 7 NBA TOP PLAY of the Day

The Angle(s): Two of the last three games in the series, both in San Antonio, have stayed under the total after a 3–0 over start to the series, with OKC contributing only 82 and 91 points in those two “under” contests. Now back home for a Game 7, I expect exceptional shooting from the Thunder, and the combination of high-intensity defense and Game 7 whistle tendencies can easily translate into a steady stream of free throws and easy points at the line.

4% Spurs/Wolves NBA TOP PLAY of the Day

The Angle(s): The San Antonio Spurs are one win away from the Western Conference Finals after a dominant 126-97 victory, and their suffocating defense has been the story, holding Minnesota under 100 points in two of the five games.

With their season on the line, expect the Timberwolves to respond with that same defensive intensity. In a high-pressure spot like this, that points toward a slower pace and a game that stays under the total.

The Angle(s): The San Antonio Spurs held the Blazers to under 100 points in three of five games, and even in their lone loss they allowed just 106. Reigning unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, French superstar Victor Wembanyama, anchors one of the league’s elite defenses, while the Wolves counters with their own defensive force in Rudy Gobert. The Spurs will likely win in a blowout, but it’ll be via lockdown defense rather than a track-meet offense.

The Angle(s): In the NBA playoffs so far, the under is 16-6 following an over. We’ve been printing money with this trend, and with just two games left in the opening round, I’m comfortable shining a light on it, because I’m not convinced the trend will survive into Round 2. We were a buzzer-eating Toronto three-pointer away from cashing this exact trend in Game 6 of this series. Bad beat, but I fully expect us to get that one back here.

4% Nuggets/Wolves NBA TOP PLAY of the Day

The Angle(s): The Minnesota Timberwolves look to close out the series at home, holding a 3-2 lead despite a 125-113 loss at Denver last time out. In the previous two games in Minnesota, the Timberwolves held the Denver Nuggets to 96 points each time, and with superstar Anthony Edwards out, they will need to rely on their defense to keep this one close. Gimme me the under.

4% Rockets/Lakers NBA TOP PLAY of the Day 

The Angle(s): The Houston Rockets stayed alive with a 115-96 win in Game 4. They finally got a handle on LeBron James, holding him to 10 points on 2-of-9 shooting, and with Doncic and Reaves out, if LeBron is not at his best, this is a weak Lakers team. I think we will see another relatively low-scoring affair as Houston fights for its life.

4% Sixers/Celtics NBA TOP PLAY of the Day

The Angle(s): The zig-zag theory isn't just for sides. This playoffs, the under is 12-4 after an over, and the first three games of this series all stayed under before Celtics' 128-96 Game 4 win.

MAGIC MIKE'S 4% Thunder/Suns NBA TOP PLAY

The Angle(s): The Oklahoma City Thunder have scored 119, 120, and 121 points through the first three games of the series. They clearly know how to exploit the holes in Phoenix's defense, and the Suns must feel quite hapless down 3-0 with virtually no chance of redemption. I think the Thunder will keep running rampant on offense against a Suns team that will be happy to just get the ball back and try scoring some points. I do not expect much grit on defense from either side to be honest.

5% SUPER MAX: NBA East TOTAL OF THE MONTH

The Angle(s): After losing game 1 of the series, the Detroit Pistons clamped down on defense again to win Game 2 98-93. They're holding opponents to 109.3 points per game (3), and will only improve the more they see of the Magic. We can also note that the Pistons are 14-5 (74%) to the under as road favorites of seven points or fewer. 

The Bet: UNDER (5%). 

4% Warriors/Clippers NBA TOP PLAY of the Day

The Angle(s): The Los Angeles Clippers (No. 9) edged the Golden State Warriors (No. 10) 115-110 in their regular-season finale on April 12, but this do-or-die play-in rematch amps the stakes with elimination on the line. Expect both squads to clamp down defensively for a grittier battle than the recent, looser, matchup.

4% Pistons Magic NBA TOP PLAY of the Day

The Angle(s): The Orlando Magic are 7-3 to the over in their last 10 games, but the last two meetings with the Detroit Pistons both stayed comfortably under the total. The Pistons have clinched the No. 1 seed and can start resting players, and while the second-stringers will look to make the most of their minutes, the drop-off is big enough for me to like the under here.

4% Jazz/Thunder NBA TOP PLAY of the Day

The Angle(s): The last meeting, with a closing total of 242½, went over the total, but only because it went to overtime. With the Oklahoma City Thunder more than a 20-point favorite, another OT seems unlikely, and I expect the home team to be able to bench its starters early. As for the Utah Jazz, several of their top scorers have missed extended time recently.

4% Michigan/Arizona CBB TOP PLAY of the Day

The Angle(s): Both teams have lit up the scoreboard against tough opponents in NCAA Tournament play, and I think this total looks a little low. Michigan averages 87.7 points per game (11th nationally), and I expect the Wolverines to push the pace and force Arizona to keep up

The Angle(s): The defensively challenged Dallas Mavericks don't seem to mind letting their young talent focus on offense over defense down the stretch. The Orlando Magic are gearing up for postseason basketball, but they've allowed 130+ points in three of their last five games, while Dallas has conceded 120+ in 12 of its last 14.

The Angle(s): The Charlotte Hornets are 63% to the under overall this season and 67% to the under as home favorites. They held Phoenix to just 111 points less than a month ago, but still lost 111-99. I expect both teams to bring solid defense again and keep the final score under the total.

The Angle(s): The Washington Wizards got blown out 123-86 at Portland last night, but I expect them to put up way more points tonight and help push this one over the total. They're 4-0 to the over on no rest lately, and 3-1 to the over on no rest coming off an under this season.

The Angle(s): The Portland Trailblazers are 15-2 (88%) to the over as home favorites. The Washington Wizards are 31-16 (66%) to the over as underdogs of 10 points or more on the season, and currently on a 10-2 run to the over in this spot.

The Angle(s): The Arizona Wildcats play at one of the quickest tempos among the remaining teams in the tournament, consistently creating elevated possession counts that put totals in this range under pressure. While Arizona is elite defensively, the Purdue Boilermakers bring one of the most efficient offenses in the country and have already shown in this tournament they can generate points in bunches, including a triple-digit scoring performance earlier in the run.

The Angle(s): The Charlotte Hornets are turning into a "dark horse" for the playoffs. No, I don't seriously then can be a threat to the title, but they're playing great basketball, and it all starts with good defending. Coming off a 134-90 win over the Kings, I think they can hold the Knicks in check here.

The Angle(s): The Memphis Grizzlies were blown out 146-107 in Atlanta on Monday, and while the San Antonio Spurs have scored 130+ points in three of their last four games, I still expect this to be a relatively low-scoring affair. The Grizzlies are 9-4 to the under as double-digit underdogs, and the Spurs can bring plenty of defensive pressure.

The Orlando Magic lost 113-108 to the Thunder their last time out and eight of the last time meetings with Charlotte have stayed under hte total, suggesting they're likely to get buckets in this one as well.

Suns/Celtics NBA TOTAL TOP PLAY of the Day

The Angle(s): Jayson Tatum played a season-high 32 minutes Saturday in a 111-100 victory over the Wizards. The Celtics have played surprisingly well without their previously injured superstar, excelling on defense by holding opponents to an NBA-best 107.0 points per game. They're 8-2 to the under in their last 10 games, and I don't think they're about to abandon that hard-nosed defensive identity.

EARLY 1 PM ET: 4% Wolves/Thunder Total TOP PLAY of the Day

The Angle(s): This is a big revenge spot for the Oklahoma City Thunder after losing the last two meetings, both in Minnesota, making the Wolves responsible for almost 15% of OKC's 15 losses for the season. I expect the Thunder to lock down defensively, just like they did in their 104-102 win over Boston on Thursday.

The Angle(s): The Dayton Flyers are 21-11 to the under on the season but 5-4 to the over as underdogs. Here against a Saint Louis team coming off an 88-81 win over George Washington with a spread similar to this and a 16-11 over/under record as favorites of five points or more, I think the bookmakers got this total wrong.

Iowa State/Arizona CBB TOP PLAY of the Day 

The Angle(s): Both the Iowa State Cyclones and the Arizona Wildcats locked down their opponents in the previous round, but I think this total looks light. Sure, both teams (Arizona in particular) are rock solid on the defensive end, but both also average over 80 points per game. Arizona won 73-57 when they hosted the Cyclones less than two weeks ago, but I expect a better output from Iowa State in this matchup.

The Angle(s): The Los Angeles Clippers are 36-28 to the over on the season and 8-2 to the over in their last 10 games, but here they'll face a Minnesota Timberwolves team that has lost its scoring touch completely. On no rest after a 120-106 loss to the Lakers here in LA last night, expect the Wolves to control the tempo.

The Angle(s): Both the Charlotte Hornets and the Boston Celtics have come out hot from the All-Star break, and it's mostly their play on the defensive end that has me impressed. The Celtics have conceded just 98 and 81 points across their last two games, to Philly and Milwaukee, and the Hornets 93 and 90 points, to Portland and Dallas, across their last two. With both teams locked in defensively, I like the under even at this relatively low number.

The Angle(s): The Kansas Jayhawks are 20-9 to the under on the season and although the Arizona State Sun Devils have a more modest 14-15 over/under record, not that they are 3-1 to the under as home underdogs. I think the road favorite will control the tempo and stifle the home team with its elite, top-tier defense (ranked 4th nationally by KenPom).

The Angle(s): Both teams are coming off solid offensive outings (Kings a 130-121 win, Lakers a 129-101 win), and the Kings won 124-112 when they hosted the Lakers back in January. The injury report looks positive for the Lakers, which supports this pick as they're so much more productive with LeBron, Luka and Reaves together on the court. The Lakers are 8-4 to the over as home favorites against Western Conference rivals.

The Nets are 6-3 to the over with totals of 215 or lower, while the Celtics sit 2-2 O/U in similar spots.

The Angle(s): Both teams have been trending heavily to the over all season and with the underdog coming off an 88-point outing, I like the over as I'm already very confident in the RedHawks offensive capabilities.

The Angle(s): The Florida Gators are 16-8 to the under on the season but own a 2-2 o/u record in games with totals of 155 or lower. Matchups with the Kentucky Wildcats tend to end up being of the higher-scoring variety, with the last meeting just over a year ago ending with a combined 206 points. I really like the over at this line.

I think this game will be of the lower-scoring variety.

The Angle: The Brooklyn Nets are coming off a 127-113 win over Washington and have seen each of their last three games fly over the total. The Chicago Bulls have conceded 135, 131, 123 and 136 points through their last four games, and I think both teams will have open lanes to the basket.

There's still a lot of talent on the hardwood, but I think the scoring will take a bigger hit than what's reflected on the total.

The Angle: The Miami Heat have found their offensive rhythm, scoring 127, 114 and 122 points over a 2-1 stretch. The Warriors have scored 119, 126 and 136 points over their last three, and I think both teams will get buckets in this one.

The Angle: Both teams are averaging well over 80 points per game with BYU closer to 90 with a 87.5 ppg average. Both can light it up from behind the arc, with Texas Tech best with a 37.8% average (24th). I think this total looks light and expect the final score to fly over.

The Angle: The over/under is 9-1 to the over in the last 10 meetings between these two teams, the most recent a 133-107 Cavs win here in Philly just a couple of nights ago, but with this being the second game in such a short timeframe, they should have each other figured out this time keeping the score down.

The Angle: The Memphis Grizzlies are 24-15 to the under on the season and the Orlando Magic have clamped down defensively lately against teams with losing records.

The Angle: Both teams are 22-17 to the under on the season and the Phoenix Suns have played locked down defense through a 5-1 run of games. With the Miami Heat being held to fewer than 100 points in two of their last three games, I think this total is way too high.

The Angle: The Los Angeles Clippers have rebounded from a slow start with top-notch defensive intensity. The Boston Celtics remain competitive without Jayson Tatum, ranking second in scoring defense thanks to hard-nosed play. This defensive battle in a late game sets up perfectly for the under.

1:00 PM ET NBA: WARRIORS/HORNETS TOP PLAY of the Day 

The Angle: Matchups between the Golden State Warriors and Charlotte Hornets have been dominantly one-sided and low-scoring in recent seasons, with Golden State going 7-3 straight up and ATS in the last 10 meetings, seven of those cashing the under. In this early New Year's Eve tip-off at Spectrum Center, both squads could fire blanks offensively in the unusual 1 PM ET slot.

Pistons/Kings NBA BOOKIE BREAKER

The Angle: The Detroit Pistons will play on no rest after battling the Blazers in Portland to start the week. The Detroit Pistons are 4-1 to the over playing on no rest, but all those games were against rivals from the East. They are 67% to the under in six games against teams from the West on the season, and I think this will be a relatively low-scoring affair. 

The Bet: UNDER (3%). 

5% NBA West Total of the Year MEGA MAX BET

The Angle: The Thunder are 15-13 (54%) to the over on the season, but 41% to the under in games with totals of 224 and above. The Grizzlies? 10-18 to the under overall, and a head-to-head matchup between these two teams back in November saw just 214 points.

The Angle: The Los Angeles Lakers are 8-2 to the over in their last 10 games, but they've gone just 2-5 (29%) over/under as road favorites this season. Expect defensive intensity from both sides in this Battle of L.A., keeping the score in check and favoring the under.

The Angle: The Miami Heat are 14-12 on the season, but they've hit a snag coming off five consecutive losses, which can be attributed to a lack of buckets. The Brooklyn Nets have been winning with their defense, leading to eight of their last 10 games going under the total. With the last five meetings in this series staying under the total, I expect another relatively low-scoring affair.

Pistons/Celtics NBA TOP PLAY of the Day 

The Angle: The Detroit Pistons have scored 122 points or more in three consecutive games but here they'll face a Boston team that has owned the Pistons in recent seasons and have got to their 15-10 record this season with their defense rather than their offense. Both teams have a top 5 scoring defense and I think this total looks high.

Late 10:10 PM ET: Wolves/Kings NBA TOP PLAY

The Angle: I think this total would be higher if the Minnesota Timberwolves didn't come into this game on a 6-0 run to the under and four of the Sacramento Kings' last five staying under the total. This will be the third meeting of the season already, with the previous games finishing with 261 (at SAC) and 234 points (at MIN). Back at Golden 1 Center, we might see another 260+ point game.

The Trend(s): The Portland Trail Blazers are 11-4 to the over and the Golden State Warriors 11-6 to the over. I except a bounce back from the Warriors after wrapping up a six-game road trip with a 119-96 loss at Miami, and they're 4-1 to the over following an under.

The Angle: The Golden State Warriors are 10-5 to the over on the season but I think we'll see a relatively low-scoring affair when they host the Orlando Magic Tuesday night. Orlando star Paolo Banchero will be out for a second straight game, and the Magic have had trouble scoring even with him in the lineup. With the Warriors taking on the Heat in Miami tomorrow, I doubt they'll be looking to push the tempo too much.

The Angle: The Brooklyn Nets have struggled defensively, which plays right into the hands of the Orlando Magic, who have been consistently putting up points this season. This matchup historically trends to the over, with the last 10 meetings showing a 6-3-1 record favoring the over.

The Angle: The Oakland Golden Grizzlies are 2-0 to the over this season, having put up solid points against Michigan and Purdue. However, they face a much tougher challenge against Houston, a team that is 2-0 to the under and ranks 5th in the nation by holding opponents to an average of just 52.5 points per game.

The Cougars are expected to control the tempo with their slow, methodical style of play and despite the low posted total, the game is likely to stay under.

The Angle: We won with the under in Detroit vs Memphis on Monday, and I think we'll see another Pistons under when they host Utah Wednesday night. The Jazz offense has fallen off a cliff scoring just 96, 103 and 105 points over their last three games, and Detroit has been feisty on the defensive end.

Late Suns/Warriors 4% NBA TOP PLAY

The Angle: The Warriors’ offense has cooled off after a hot start, putting up just 98, 110, and 109 points in their last three games. While the last two meetings saw the winning team score 130+ points, those games are dated. At home this season, the Warriors have held opponents to a solid 109.3 points per game. This total looks too high, making the under an appealing play in this matchup.

The Angle: The Memphis Grizzlies have tightened their defense significantly but have lost ground on offense. After starting the season 4-0 over, they’re now on a 3-0 run to the under. The Angle: The Orlando Magic are coming off a 136-124 loss as a 6-point favorite at Philadelphia.
