The Celtics have value laying the points. Boston is not just beating teams, but they’re blowing them out convincingly when they win. They’re off a 148-111 win over Brooklyn and now take on a shorthanded Bucks side. Milwaukee was just blown out by Chicago 120-97 and they haven’t had any sort of rhythm all year. Boston has far too many weapons and a much better offensive attack that will wear down this Bucks defense right from the start. Boston only gives up 107 ppg defensively as well, as they swarm to the ball and rarely allow many 2nd or 3rd chances on possessions. The Mavericks have value as they take on the Grizzlies. Both teams continue to be shorthanded as they’re dealing with many injuries. However, Dallas has seemed to handle it much better and they’re at least being competitive in games, while stealing a few. They’ve won 2 of their last 3 entering Friday and it’s been Naji Marshall who has stepped up. He’s dropped 36 and 21 in each of his last two games and he gets to go up against a Memphis defense that is just a mess. Houston and Orlando meet and we’re on the Rockets. Houston has won back to back games and they’ve done it with dominant offense. They put up 125 and 128 in those wins as this offense just has so many weapons that can hurt opponents. Combine that with how good this team is defensively and they’re just such an overwhelming opponent. They gave up 105 and 97 in those two wins and overall they average just 109.1 ppg against. Orlando will struggle to get into any sort of rhythm offensively themselves, as Houston will wear them out as this game goes on. Back the Rockets.

San Antonio and Toronto meet and there is good value on the Spurs. Toronto is off a loss to the Thunder and they have just struggled when it comes to playing top teams. The Spurs haven’t lost this month and are off a 114-103 win over the top team in the East against Detroit. They’re averaging nearly 119 ppg and only giving up 111.9, as they have been so difficult to crack with their speed and length. Dallas and Brooklyn meet and we’re on the Mavs. Brooklyn is just in an absolute free fall and they’ve dropped 4 straight games. Dallas is off a good win over Indiana and despite their injury issues, they’re still battling this season. They have been able to matchup with all the good teams in the league and they’re going to frustrate this Spurs offensive attack all night. Los Angeles and Orlando clash and we’re on the Clippers. Los Angeles continues to put together good games and after their slow start, they’re putting themselves right back into the playoff picture. They’ve won 2 of 3 and are off a 3 point loss to the Lakers, but getting to stay at home is huge here. Orlando has had issues on the road and fell to Phoenix Saturday in 2 overtimes. Denver and the Warriors meet and we’re on the Nuggets. Denver is off a 54 point win over Portland as they made a statement in a blowout win. Golden State continues to be without Curry and this offense just hasn’t had the same firepower. They have dropped back to back games and now they have to play through Porzingis, who simply can’t be a difference maker. Jokic and Murray, along with the rest of the supporting cast put up 157 on Portland and this young group from the Warriors will struggle defensively. This is a great spot for Denver to control the pace and control both the paint and perimeter, in what will be a lopsided game. Back Denver.

Atlanta and Miami meet and this is a great spot on Atlanta. The Hawks are such a tough matchup for the Heat, given how quick they play. This Atlanta team loves to push the tempo and they love to get a lot of looks in transition. The Hawks average nearly 118 ppg and they dropped 127 points on this Heat defense earlier this month. Miami has just been far too inconsistent and have struggled defensively as a whole. They allow 118 ppg themselves and they have struggled with this style of play. Brooklyn probably doesn’t win this game outright, but the number matters on New Year’s Day. This spread feels stretched given how well the Nets have been playing. Brooklyn has quietly been one of the best defensive teams over the past month and sits 7–4 in their L11. This young roster plays with energy, competes every possession, and makes opponents work for wins. Houston also enters with real uncertainty up front, as all three centers are game-time decisions. That’s less than ideal against a Nets team getting Cam Thomas back to spark the offense. The matchup history favors Brooklyn as well, with the Nets winning six straight at home against Houston. That building hasn’t been friendly. Big spreads shrink quickly when effort shows up. Houston may still win, but covering double digits feels ambitious. Give me Brooklyn +12.5.

Los Angeles has dropped 2 in a row and this defense has been very inconsistent. They’ve given up 120 an 126 in the 2 losses and the Suns speed will be a difference maker here. Orlando enters this matchup looking completely out of sync. The Magic have 1 win against the spread in 6 games this season and just 3 wins in their last 10 overall. Their defense, once considered a strength, has fallen apart early — allowing 120 PPG and struggling mightily in transition. Even when they get ahead, they’ve failed to protect leads late, which has cost them multiple winnable games. On the other side, the Wizards (1-4) will look to stop a 3-game losing streak, and they’ll bring energy and pace to do it. Washington’s young core isn’t afraid to run, and they’ve quietly hung around against tougher teams despite the record. They're capable of lighting it up, this group can keep things close when their offense gets rolling. The Wiz have nothing to fear here — this is a perfect spot to go get it done. Given Orlando’s shaky defense and poor ATS record, there’s clear value in grabbing the points with Washington. The Wizards’ tempo and offensive upside make them a live dog, and this feels like the night they finally cash in. Take Washington to cover and potentially pull off the upset.

The Bucks are rolling right now — 4-0 ATS, 7-1 ATS in their last 8 at home, and Giannis looks flat-out unstoppable. Milwaukee’s also won 4 of the last 5 home matchups against Golden State, proving this building hasn’t been kind to the visitors. Golden State comes in off that 98-79 win over the Clippers, but this defense hasn’t looked right yet. They’re still sitting near the bottom of the league in efficiency and now have to deal with Giannis and a confident Bucks squad that just stormed back from double digits to beat the Knicks. Things have been a struggle without Tatum to start the year, but the Celtics always find a way to give Cleveland issues. This is a tough spot for Cleveland as they have played a lot of games the past week and will have another contest Friday night back home. Oklahoma City won a double overtime thriller against Houston on opening night and this team looks poised to make another run at the title. Indiana struggled last year with quick teams and they’re going to have their hands full with this Thunder attack.
