Wichita State/Lipscomb 7:00: Lipscomb no joke. They drop an average of 83.7 PPG on opponents. Sure, they play in the Atlantic Sun Conference - which gets very little exposure and limited athletes; however, they're very well coached and have been a road warrior all year including impressive performances at Belmont, TCU, Louisville. And they took out NC Greensboro, Davidson and N.C. State in the NIT. I do realize Wichita State is always dangerous as long as Greg Marshall is patrolling the sidelines; however, he doesn't have the shooters this year nor the big game playmakers. As the stakes grown higher, you got to be able to put the ball in the basket. The Bisons', however, do have shooters led by Garrison Matthews who is averaging nearly 35 PPG in this tournament. Bisons deliver.

Michigan State/Duke 5:05: Duke barely clinging on to victories and overdue for a route. And surely Coach K owns Izzo to the tune of 11-1 SU; however, I like Michigan State's experience and Winston as the big game facilitator. Duke does not have the perimeter game this season (30.7% which is 331st in the nation) but Zion Williamson can scorch teams anywhere on the floor. And Duke runs there offense so smoothly, they've mastered the game around the rim. But I like Michigan State's inside game which seals off easy buckets around the rim. Tillman, Goins, Ward are cut from Izzo's cloth of strength in the paint and securing rebounds. Also like the Spartans' freshmen Henry and Brown stepping up their game as crunch time arrives. And, of course, McQuaid usually steps up at one time or another in a big game with a big shot. And Michigan State can run the floor with the best of them if it turns into a transition game. With Duke's Reddish (knee) still iffy - he'll most likely play - we'll give the edge to the Spartans.

Sure, leading rebounder and threat on anywhere from the floor - Okeke is out and that hurts; however, Auburn is playing as a team with next man up attitude. And there is still plenty of weaponry with Brown and Harper leading the way. And someone from the deep Auburn bench usually steps up whether it be Doughty, McCormick, Purifoy or Wiley. Kentucky would have been in deep trouble had P.J. Washington (foot) not played versus Houston. Kentucky is sneaking by teams and have trouble getting into sets late in games. Auburn looking for double same season revenge and I like their chances. We'll look for Pearl to keep his boys on the attack and deliver.

Purdue/Virginia 8:49: Had Purdue (+2) against Tennessee and delivered; however, don't like the matchup against the nation's #1 scoring defense. Cavaliers slapped the monkey off their back in the NCAA Round One by overcoming double digit deficit to Gardner-Webb. Confidence built in the Second Round by holding the prolific offense of Oklahoma, which dropped 95 on Ole-Miss in Round 1, to just 51 points. Another prolific offense - Oregon, which was one of the hottest teams in the nation leading in to the Sweet 16, was held to just 49. Virginia parallels the Villanova team of Jay Wright, which for years got in to the NCAA Tourney but ended underachieving but gradually improving each appearance until finding confidence and composure. Virginia has a great coach also in Bennett and he's instilled that confidence in this year's bunch. Even when Virginia is not at its best - and clearly the numbers were ugly against Oregon, the Cavaliers found a way to deliver. Cavaliers' defense will take away a team's offensive strength. For Purdue, they've been hot from the perimeter in this tourney but Virginia, #3 in the nation guarding the perimeter. Purdue has a season history of struggling against very good defensive teams. We'll look for Virginia's suffocating defense to ignite their offense and deliver today.

And even Iowa, which was dead and buried in the first half against Tennessee, came back with a vengeance to have Tennessee on the ropes before falling in OT but grabbing a cover. Purdue has been shooting the lights out in this tourney and Tennessee's defense, which was stalwart for most of the regular season (68.9 PPG allowed), has been suspect lately; after all, they've given up 78.2 PPG on average over their last 6 games. And Purdue's HC Painter - 0-4 in the Sweet 16 - is overdue for a win in this round. And beating an inconsistent Arizona State team does not solidify the Bulls as a legitimate Sweet 16 contender. To be the man, you got to beat the man. The Pirates, who are led by shooting guard Powell, find ways of scrapping it out in important games. Remember, the Pirates upset NC State last year in the NCAA First Round. The Pirates should have defensive stopper - McKnight to contain Southern Conference P.O.Y. - Fletcher Magee. Terriers can shoot the lights out and rebound; however, they'll have to deal with 6'10" Mamukelashvili - who has a definitive size advantage. Terriers have not fared well when having to step out of their league to power conferences. They failed to cover against North Carolina, Oklahoma, Kansas and Miss State. They did, however, beat S. Sure, the Martin twins will be trouble, but leading rebounder - Caroline, who averages 17.3 PPG as well, is slowed with an Achilles strain and that spells trouble against the ball hawking Gators. Gators play great defense under Coach White, have advanced past the first round in 3 of 4 years in this tourney, and won't be intimidated. Liked how Fla State finished season - taking out LSU before a narrow defeat and cover against eventual conference champion Auburn. Nevada, however, sputtered down the stretch on a 1-7 ATS slide. Murray State/Marquette 4:30: Marquette is another tournament team that started the year off strong (23-4), captured some quality non-conference wins, and then sputtered inconsistently down the stretch on a 1-5 slide. Leading scorer Markus Howard literally lived at the free throw line vs Seton Hall in the 2nd round of the conference tournament but missed lots of free throws and was a pitiful 1 of 15 from the field. Most likely, the #6 scorer in the nation will find his range today. And surely the Golden Eagles are equipped with scorers - add Hauser to that list too; however, the #11 scoring team in the nation - Murray State - is no joke. Ja Morant is as good as any scorer in the nation and he's got a solid scoring contingent supporting him. The OVC has some serious scoring teams like Belmont and Jacksonville State that can light up the net. Moreover, Murray State defends the perimeter will at 28.2%! That's #4 in the nation. Considering Marquette is not a long (height) team, without an imposing post player, the Racers can effectively trade buckets. Racers should be back to their old NCAA Tournament form of yesteryear.

Sure, MD's future NBA baller Fernando is a beast but now that Belmont's freshman big man - Muszynski (8 of 12 from field vs Temple) is back in the fray, Belmont has a big body to contain Fernando. Belmont has Sr. G McClain to light up the perimeter along with a supporting cast of white dudes who can hustle and play. As good as both - Izzo and Beilein are as coaches, Beilein may be the master of adjustments. The Wolverines have the #2 defense in the nation in terms of points allowed, and they will have the plan in order to stop Winston from effective ball screens, pick and pops or easy drives to the basket. Sharp perimeter shooters - Goins and McQuaid were surely addressed as well. Remember, Michigan has one of the top 5 defenses in the nation in terms of defending the perimeter at a measly 28.4%. Nebraska is offensively challenged especially at home where they averaged just 63.6 PPG over their last nine Big 10 games - that's 16.3 PPG less than on the road! Nebraska sports a money burning 1-8 ATS mark against teams above .500 and lost 13 of its last 16 ATS vs the Big 10. Rutgers/Indiana Noon: Both of these teams playing well down the stretch but like the grit of Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights, which have gone 6-0-1 ATS in its last 7, have a tendency to hang around on the road covering 4 straight as a traveler. And they're 10-4 ATS on the road vs a team with a home win % above .600. Coach Pikiell has done a nice job guiding Rutgers to more Big 10 wins this year than the last 2 seasons combined! And Rutgers is in line for a first round bye if they can get by Indiana today. The Scarlet Knights crash the boards - leading the Big 10 in offensive rebounds. Of course, they leave themselves vulnerable for transition points - especially perimeter shots; however, Indiana has not measured up on the perimeter for most of the season shooting just 31.2% (320th nationally). Rutgers on a 2-0 SU run vs Indiana and should deliver again.

SG Thompson still laboring with a bad knee, while key bench players Livingston and Looney are on the mend as well. And Cousins isn't the dude GS thought he was. When Andrew Bogut is recalled, things aren't all that great in the Golden State. And considering GS is a money burning 6-19 ATS at home and 1-5 ATS off a SU loss of 10+, not comfortable jumping on the Warriors here. Sure, they throttled Denver back in mid January, but Denver is 5-0-1 ATS at Golden State. Quite an accomplishment considering they've allowed 74.2 PPG for the season. With their newfound commitment to defense, the Blue Jays' Head Coach McDermott should institute a solid game plan on how to stop the two man game of the Friars' G Diallo and C Watson. As a team the Friars shoot just 41.7% from the floor and a poor 30.6% from 3 point land. They do, however, have shown consistent resiliency over the last 5 weeks going 4-0 ATS off a SU loss and 5-1 ATS off a 10+ point loss at home. The Red Storm is in a revenge mode considering they got beaten at home by the Blue Demons on January 12th. In that game, leading scorer Ponds did not play. Texas A&M/S. Carolina 1:00: Gamecocks coming off a strong effort and cover at #1 Tennessee. Coming back home should net them another SEC win. SC is 14-4-1 ATS vs the SEC and covered 4 of their last 5 home games. Silva has been a beast all season and now Lawson and Gravett are heating up from the perimeter. And Tre Campbell (19 points vs Tenn) emerged as another scoring option. The winning run for A&M should end here.

South Carolina/Tennessee 6:30: Road team in this series 4-1 ATS. SC got waxed at home 92-70 January 29, 2019 as 8' point dogs. SC 7-3-1 ATS road vs a team with home win% above .600. Silva, Bryant, Lawson capable of keeping SC in this game. Tennessee on a ridiculous run could overlook SC with Kentucky on deck.

St. Bonaventure/St. Joe's 6:30: Revenge game for St. Joe's after getting ambushed at St. Bonnie's 73-47 January 9th. Bonnie's got out of the gate early 39-12 putting away the Hawks. It should be noted that the Hawks showed some fight in the second half outscoring the Bonnies 35-34; nevertheless, an embarrassment St. Joe's wants to forget. Hawks off a throttling of SLU 91-61 and sport a 13-3 ATS mark after scoring 90+ points under Martelli. Meanwhile, Bonnies got stomped 85-55 at home vs VCU. Home teams seeking same season revenge from road team off a loss of 20+ have a successful 14-5 ATS mark over the last few decades. Bonnies are offensively challenged on the road (61 ppg) and we'll look for the Hawks to flap their wings successfully tonight.

Virginia/North Carolina 7:00: Duke shot the lights out early from the perimeter and was able to sustain the solid shooting through the second half. I don't believe the Tar Heels can do the same. Tar Heels have been hot from the perimeter but should cool off tonight. Virginia won't change their established picket fence in the paint defense to stretch out to the perimeter; after all, they're #2 in the nation defending the perimeter at 26.5%! The Cavaliers are actually a better 3 pt shooting team and should light up the weak Tar Heel defense. Cavaliers are 14-5 ATS in this series, strong off SU losses and play well on Mondays. Cavaliers the call.

Northwestern/Iowa 6:30: Offensively challenged NW averages 57 PPG on the road. And their solid defense at home surely won't translate to success here. It's going to be extremely difficult to trade buckets with an Iowa team that averages nearly 82 PPG! Iowa the call.

Cincinnati/Houston 4:00: I've had success betting on both of these teams this season and would lean on the Bearcats getting points in a projected defensive battle. Cincinnati highly dependent on big time guard Jarron Cumberland (23 ppg last 7). Other than him, Bearcats struggle to manufacturer points, especially from the perimeter. And Houston's defense (ranked 7th in the nation) is 3rd in the nation defending the perimeter. I do like the fact that Cincinnati is in good hands when Justin Jenifer controls the ball. He sports a 73/15 assist/turnover ratio. Bearcats control the 11th ranked defense in the nation and do not give up easy buckets. They have an excellent backcourt and a relentless big man in the low post in Tre Scott. This series is 1-8 O/U in its last 9 meetings and has yet to break 132 combined points in recent times at Houston. Bearcats a dangerous road team and we'll take the points.

Washington/Arizona State 10:00: Looks like a trap but can't dismiss the fact Washington is tearing through the weak PAC 12. Arizona State is determined coming off a double-digit loss at home but 9-19-2 ATS vs PAC 12 and 0-5 ATS vs winning road teams. Washington is coming off a huge win at Arizona and won't have to travel far to extend their road win streak to 7-0 ATS.
