We have reached a winner-take-all Game 7 of the WNBA Finals between Atlanta and Golden State. The game is virtually a pick'em.
The Dream are getting some support because they won, 80-69, at home in Game 6 this past Thursday. That was a difficult spot for the Valkyries, who had beaten Atlanta two in a row and had to play on the road on what was a morning start time for them.
Game 6 was Atlanta's game to win and the Dream jumped out early to a 25-point lead. Still, the Valkyries managed to cut that lead to only eight points in the fourth quarter, outscoring Atlanta by six points during the final 30 minutes in a game they were not expected to win.
But now everything changes. There may not be a tougher venue in the WNBA to win at for opposing teams than at Chase Center, home of the Valkyries. Golden State is 23-6 at home this season.
The Valkyries have more than just a home court edge. They have the best coach in the league, Natalie Nakase, the top defense and a stronger bench.
These advantages are enough for Golden State to beat Atlanta here.
Expect a shootout in the Saskatchewan-BC matchup in this Western Conference semifinal playoff game given how well each team's quarterback has performed this season.
Roughriders QB Trevor Harris led the CFL in passing yards this season with 5,370. Saskatchewan protected Harris well, giving up the second-fewest sacks in the league.
BC QB Nathan Rourke enjoyed a big season, too. He led the Lions to a 31-24 victory against the Roughriders when the teams last met on Sept. 25 throwing for 375 yards and four touchdowns.
Both teams have excellent kickers. Saskatchewan's Brett Lauther has the No. 1 field goal percentage mark of all-time in the playoffs at 91.3 percent making 21 of 23.
Lions kicker Sean Whyte connected on 43 or 47 field goal attempts this season for 91.5 percent.
Dabo Swinney has been the head coach at Clemson for 19 years. He's never had an offense this bad. The Tigers are averaging 21.4 points a game. That's the lowest in the Swinney era.
Florida State is capable of having big defensive games. The Seminoles have held two opponents to just seven points with one being Virginia. Florida State had 10 sacks against the Cavaliers.
Clemson's offensive line is permitting three sacks and 10 pressures per game. Neither Christopher Vizzina nor true freshman Tait Reynolds has been effective at quarterback for the Tigers. Clemson ranks 115th in passing yards.
The Tigers are far better defensively and Florida State is inconsistent on offense.
The Seminoles lost their star running back Ousmane Kromah to a broken ankle in their last game. That could mean a higher reliance on quarterback Ashton Daniels. I am not a fan of Daniels, who completes fewer than 59% of his throws and has just a 12-to-8 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
Everybody thinks the key storyline here is how will Ohio State QB Luke Fahey fare in his first career start? My answer is Fahey will be fine. He is just being asked to manage the game. He is surrounded by talent headed by the best wide receiver in college football, Jeremiah Smith.
Southern Cal's defense ranks 77th in points allowed at 25 a game. The Trojans also are 77th in pass defense.
Ohio State's defense is the reason why the Buckeyes will cover this road spread.
The Trojans could only manage seven points and 239 yards against Wisconsin last week. Ohio State's defense is even better. The Buckeyes hold foes to an average of 13.4 points per game, fifth-best in the nation. They also give up the seventh fewest yards per game.
Don't think Louisiana Tech has a good defense just because it is off shutout victories against Old Dominion and UL-Monroe. Those are the two worst offenses in the Sun Belt Conference.
Louisiana Tech had given up an average of 35.2 points in its previous four games.
Now the Bulldogs draw South Alabama. The Jaguars scored 56 points against Arkansas State and 52 points against UL-Monroe earlier this month. They rank in the top eight in points, rushing yards and total yards.
This is going to be a shootout because Louisiana Tech averages more than 32 points a game. The Bulldogs' Jalen Mickens leads the Sun Belt in receiving yards and his teammate, Eli Finley, is fourth.
South Alabama has a brutal defense that ranks in the bottom three in points and total yards allowed and in passing yards.
